12 Weeks of Florida Learning | 150+ Pages | Hands-On Projects

Bring the Sunshine State to life with a Florida study designed for kids who learn best when they can read, explore, create, and discover.

Florida State Study: Book 1, Symbols & Regions is a 12-week homeschool study that takes students beyond basic state facts. Through engaging reading pages, colorful illustrations, maps, vocabulary, activities, review pages, and hands-on projects, students build a meaningful understanding of the state of Florida.

Each week focuses on a new part of the Sunshine State:

  1. Where Is Florida? Explore Florida's location, unique shape, and surrounding waters.

  2. The State Capital Discover Tallahassee and learn what happens in a capital city.

  3. The Florida State Flag Examine the flag and the meaning behind its design.

  4. The Florida State Seal Look closely at the symbols represented on Florida's seal.

  5. The State Bird Meet the Northern Mockingbird.

  6. The State Tree Discover the Sabal Palm and its importance to Florida.

  7. The State Flower Explore the Orange Blossom and its connection to the state.

  8. Bordering States Learn about Florida's neighbors, Georgia and Alabama.

  9. Regions of Florida Explore the different regions that make up the state.

  10. Natural Resources Discover important Florida resources, including water, citrus, timber, and phosphate.

  11. Major Industries Explore the businesses and industries that help Florida thrive.

  12. Cities and Landmarks Finish the adventure by discovering important cities and recognizable Florida landmarks.

More Than a Workbook

This isn't a stack of worksheets kids simply complete and forget.

Students encounter the material in several different ways throughout the study with 150+ pages of learning, including engaging informational reading, Big Questions, Words to Know, vocabulary activities, Look Closely pages, Florida Fast Facts, Draw & Tell activities, comprehension and reflection pages, maps, and more.

And every week includes a Create It! experience.

Families can complete the Family Guide Activity using common supplies at home, while the Hands-On Kit version turns the lesson into an elevated project experience. Students might build a 3-D Florida map, create an Orange Blossom branch, explore Florida's natural resources, design a Florida business, and more.

The goal is simple: don't just teach children facts about Florida. Give them a chance to experience what they're learning.
