Mrs. Parkes Corner

Mrs. Parkes Corner

My friend, who recently lost her courageous fight to cancer was an inspiration to so many lives that she touched throughout her journey here on earth. She and I always wanted to start a podcast, where we could help so many parents feel empowered to teach their children. She had such a natural way to look for ways to teach children that are outside the box of most teaching styles, which aligned perfectly with my hands-on learning style. She saw potential in all children, and it was amazing. I told her in the final days of her life that I would keep her memory alive, that I would continue to create resources and share them with families around the world.

So, in memory of my everlasting friend, Mrs. Mariana Parkes, I am creating a tab on my website www.homeschoolinabox.com, called Mrs. Parkes Corner, where you will soon find free resources to help you feel empowered to teach your children. She and I had a lot of ideas started, before her diagnosis, and I will now work through and finish them as quickly as possible to get them up and on here for you!

Mariana loved reading to children! Some of my children’s favorite memories come through books she read to them. In honor of Mariana’s love for reading, I will be adding newly published e-books, as they come available, to Mrs. Parkes Corner, available for no cost for all. I will also be hosting a free curriculum drop each month for one deserving child. So please think of those who might need some hands-on tools for learning and nominate them through Mrs. Parkes Corner.

Please stay tuned for what I hope to be a lasting, ongoing tribute to my friend.

Hi, I am Mariah, a homeschool mom of 7, and Owner and Creator of Homeschool In A Box Inc. I am currently in the thick of planning my 10th year of teaching my children at home, and despite all the bumps and learning curves in the road that comes with homeschooling, I am loving every minute of this journey.

I began homeschooling when my oldest child was beginning the 6th grade. After 6 years of sending my children to traditional public school, my husband and I prayerfully made the decision to bring our children home to learn, to adapt to their individualized learning needs. Over the past 10 years, I have taught multiple children with vast learning abilities, from pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade, and I have learned a lot!

From my experience, if I could summarize homeschooling with a few key words, they would be: Hard, Fun, Overwhelming, Joy, Light, Excitement, Achievement, Togetherness, Family. Follow along as I dive into the good, the bad, the fun, the hard, and the best days of being a homeschool mom of 7!
